Getting Started at Slipmat.io

Want to spin at Slipmat.io? Great! Here's all you need to know to get started.

1. Join the Beta email list

Slipmat.io is currently in private beta, which means that DJ registrations are invite-only. To get an invite you'll need to opt in to the email list.

To get an invitation you need a Slipmat.io account, so go and register for a personal account using the same email address that you have subscribed to the mailing list. (This is not your DJ profile so use your personal details.)

Note: the invitations for DJ program are only sent to email adresses on this list. If you are not in this list, you won't get an invitation. At the moment invitations are sent almost daily, but be patient.

2. Set up your gear for live streaming

The first thing you need to learn about Slipmat.io is that the Slipmat video streams are provided by third party platforms, not by Slipmat. At the moment you can choose from experimental native RTMP stream offered by community-built Openstream, Chew.tv video and YouTube live.

By not wasting our time trying to compete with the likes of YouTube we are giving you a choice to use a provider what suits you best and we get to focus our development on all other stuff. This is one of the reasons why Slipmat features are even in beta stage way better than anything else on the planet.

Streaming with YouTube

YouTube is our most used and recommended platform. To get started with YouTube, first read the Introduction to live streaming. Then follow the instructions on how to Create a live stream. Get started with the Stream now beta as it's the easiest and fastest way to stream. YouTube displays you a list of compatible streaming softwares, but if you're just getting started, we warmly recommend you to get Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) which is free and available for all platforms.

We have a very detailed instructions on how to configure OBS for Slipmat and YouTube.

Note that for being able to use YouTube streams on Slipmat.io your YouTube account needs to be verified and Embed live streams feature needs to be enabled.

Streaming with native RTMP

Another super easy way to stream is to use our experimental native RTMP stream. This video platform is again not provided by Slipmat, but we call it native because it integrates fully and automatically with Slipmat events.

You can configure and test native streams only after you get your invite, so we recommend starting with YouTube.

When you get your software and hardware set up for live streaming, do one or more test streams to get yourself familiar with the process and make sure your audio and video are working properly. You need to know how to use your live streaming setup well to be able to stream comfortably on Slipmat.io.

Don't worry if If the first steps feel hard, they need to be done only once, everything is easy after you first get the hang of it :)

3. Join Slipmat.io events

Congratulations, you've now completed all the steps needed to be able to stream on Slipmat.io! The process of setting up your gear needs only be done once, so if you've come this far, you are ready to stream at Slipmat.io and the rest is very easy.

Please remember that this user account is not your DJ profile. Therefore please put your personal details in this user profile (you can always edit them, too). When you get an invite to create a DJ profile, you should put your DJ name and other DJ persona details there.
